Segment 9 is all blue. The female has similar markings but is greenish where the male is blue. This is a fairly common eastern species reaching its extreme westernlimit in Nebraska and the Black Hills of South Dakota. It is most common inthe southeastern counties and northern Sandhills. It is found in small, clear, sandy streams in these areas.
