The Vivid Dancer is similar to Springwater Dancer. The male is bright blue, with a wide stripe on the top of the thorax. The blue abdominal segments are ringed with black. Females are blue or brown.
Nebraska is at the extreme eastern edge of the range of this western species. It is uncommon and found only in the western half of the state east to Keya Paha and Hayes Counties in the same habitat as Springwater Dancer - small streams, seeps, rushing, clear, sandy streams. It is oftenabundant, but it is impossible toseparate from Springwater Dancer in the field.
