Springwater Dancer males are a vivid blue color, marked with black. Their black shoulder stripes narrow in the middle. The abdomen is marked with black, and segment 7 is almost all black. Females are pale brown or bluish. This species is very similar to the Vivid Dancer, but the ranges barely overlap in Brown and Keya Paha counties.

Springwater Dancer is a fairly common midwestern species extending west into Nebraska and north into southeastern counties of South Dakota. It is found primarily in seepage areas or on very small clear streams with overhanging grass and only occasionally on clear, fast flowing streams.
