Aura Paucar studied a Ph.D. degree at the Universidad de Alicante-Spain, her thesis was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Estefanía Micó and Dr. Brett Ratcliffe (University of Nebraska). For her dissertation she conducted a faunistic survey of the tribe Pentodontini (Dynastinae) of Ecuador. Support for her field research and collections work was provided, in part, by a grant from the National Geographic Society (NGS 9936–16) to Brett Ratcliffe.

She studied her M.S. degree at the University of Nebraska (PEET-Graduates). For her M.S. research, she revised the genus Epectinaspis (Rutelinae: Anomalini). She completed a faunistic survey of the Rutelinae of Ecuador for her Licenciatura degree at the Catholic University of Quito.

Her research includes the systematics of New World Rutelinae and Dynastinae as well as scarab larvae.

Currently she designs and upgrades the web pages of the University of Nebraska State Museum-Entomology Division, works as a teacher at the Universidad Nacional de Loja in Ecuador, and is the curator of the entomological collection at the Museo de Zoología LOUNAZ at the Universidad Nacional de Loja.
