The Brimstone Clubtail is small and mostly pale yellow-green, including face, thorax, upper legs and abdomen. The abdomen is marked with black, and segments 7 to 9 are a bright sulfur yellow on the sides. Males perch (hang) in low vegetation in open fields. The female resembles the male.

Uncommon. This is a western species extending into western Iowa. Nebraskais the northern limit for the species and the records are scatteredall across the state but are more common in the western half. This and thepreceding species are the most common Stylurus.

Habitat: sluggish rivers in open country

Great Plains Range: TX, KS, NE, NM, CO, WY, MO, IA

Flight season: mid June to mid August
