The Halloween Pennant is easily recognized by the large amount of yellow or orange and brown in the wings. The adult male has a red face, stigmas and markings on the top of the abdomen. In females and young males, these areas are yellow.

Common. This is another eastern species coming west to western Nebraska,Kansas and Oklahoma. It is statewide and expected in every county. It is more common later in the season and is found along rivers as well as ponds, but frequently in weedy vegetation well back from the water. Aconspicuous species, it is perhaps another recent invader, since there are no records prior to the 1990s except for a large number collected inCass County in 1914.
