Remarks:

One of the 2 species of South American Lucaninae in which the males and females are almost indistiguishable externally (the other being S. tuberculatus). Unlike S. tuberculatus, this species is flightless. It is known from only 6 specimens from Nothofagus forests that are restrictetd to mountaintops in the coastal range near Rancagua. It is found under bark.
