30 species (excluding Serrognathus Motschulsky and Macrodorcus Motschulsky). Only 2 species are found in the New World, both are widely distributed in the eastern US and Canada. The name D. mexicanus Benesh is a synonym of the Old World species D. parallelipipedus (L.) based on mislabeled specimens.
