Tule Bluet

The Tule Bluet is a widespread blue and black damsel with more black than blue on the middle abdominal segments. The blue ring between abdominal segments 6 and 7 is very thin. Females may be pale blue, greenish or tan.

This is a common transcontinental species found in Iowa but common only in western counties of Nebraska and becoming less and less common as onegoes east. It is rare, if not absent, from many southeastern counties. It is difficult to separate in the field from Familiar Bluet and shares thesame habitat; in the eastern part of Nebraska Familiar Bluet is always themore common species. As you move west, Tule Bluet becomes more common until it is sometimes the dominant bluet in a pond, lake or stream.
