Azure Bluet

The Azure Bluet is another black and blue damsel species. The male can be thought of as black in the middle and blue on both ends. The female has even more black than the male, and her thorax is darker. She has large blue spots on the top of abdominal segment 8.

This is an eastern species barely getting into Nebraska. There are scattered records in the eastern half of the state. It is found at small,often seasonal, fish-free ponds and is probably overlooked becausesuch sites are often not attractive collecting venues. It is frequentlyabundant in ponds where present.
