Type species. Saprolochus tambopatae Stebnicka and Galante 2007, by original designation.

 
 
Diagnosis. Body length 2.3-4.0 mm, elongate, robust, dark reddish-brown to black. Head broad, gibbose, can be strongly deflexed. Clypeal margin smooth, flattened anteriorly, double edged, with prominent median spine projecting ventrally. Pronotum tumid, sides directed ventrally, with clypeus forming cavity for fore legs; lateral margin usually emarginate towards base with variably number of teeth or lobed. Elytral striae strongly punctured; intervals convex or somewhat flattened. Meso- and metatibia weakly widened to apex.
