Dr. Vladimir Balthasar
was widely renown as a prolific worker with the Scarabaeinae
and Aphodiinae. He published many papers on these subfamilies
as well as others on laparostict scarabs and even Hymenoptera.
His magnum opus was the large, three volume work entitled,
Monographie der Scarabaeidae und Aphodiidae der Palaearktischen
un Orientalischen Region, that appeared in 1963 and 1964.
He was one of the founders of the Czechoslovakian Entomological
Society and served as one of its presidents.
