Sandra J. Amézquita M. is a Colombian biologist interested in dung beetles. She worked in Colombia and Bolivia between 1996-1998 in partnership with Alejandro Lopera and with the guidance of Adrian Forsythe using dung beetles as bioindicators of forest fragmentation. For her Masters degree in 2000 she compared the dung beetle community in two Andean forest fragments comparing data of two years of sampling (1996 and 2000) and discussed the application of these studies as tools for environmental management in this type of forest.

She graduated in 2009 at the Instituto de Ecologia, A.C. in Xalapa, Mexico, where she worked under the supervision of Mario Favila. Their work was about dung beetle ecology that involves evaluating the effects of forest fragmentation on dung removal by dung beetles in forest fragments at Los Tuxtlas, Mexico.

Sandra is now working as an advisor in Biodiversity at the Science, Technology and Innovation Department (Colciencias).
