Rafael Sobral

Rafael Sobral is a Brazilian entomologist interested in the systematics of scarab beetles,
especially the rhinoceros beetles. He graduated in Biological Sciences at the
Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) in 2014 and completed his
Master’s in Entomology at the Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amazônia (INPA) in
2017. Currently, Rafael is doing his PhD at the Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da
Amazônia, in Manaus, Amazonas, Brazil. In his PhD thesis, he is dealing with the systematics of Agaocephalini (Coleoptera: Scarabaeoidea: Dynastinae), a tribe of New World rhinoceros beetles. He seeks to review the taxonomy of the genera within the tribe and understand their phylogenetic relationship based on morphological data. Rafael is also interested in biogeography, biology, conservation, ecology, and evolution of Neotropical scarabs, in zoological nomenclature, and in myrmecophily and termitophily in beetles.
