Petr Šípek is a PhD student and lecturer at the Department of Zoology, Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic. His interests are biology, ecology, taxonomy, and morphology of immature stages of Cetoniinae. He is also keen on breeding Cetoniinae and other scarabs as well as other insects. In 2005 he defended his MSc thesis, entitled "Larvae of the cetoniid beetles (Coleoptera: Cetoniidae): morphology, taxonomy, biology." He is keen on field work and has undetaken several expeditions to India (partly as volunteer for the research of hanuman langurs, Semnopithecus entellus), where he spent more than a year. Petr Šípek is a co-organizer of the "Immature Beetles meeting“, a biannual get-together of workers dealing with larva of Coleoptera.
