Naikoa's principal beetle work concerns to ascertain how dung beetles serve as ecological indicators of ecosystem health and to use this biodiversity data to assist with sustainable management of tropical forests. Currently Naikoa works on Monitoring Reporting and Verification of carbon emissions reductions as a result of REDD+ implementation and is actively engaged in the biodiversity safeguards comoponent promotong the use of dung beetles as indicators.
