Malva Isabel Medina Hernández

Malva Hernández in caatinga forest in Brazil.

Malva Isabel Medina Hernández completed her doctorate in Biological Sciences
in 2001 and currently works at the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Brazil, where she teaches Community Ecology and Conservation Biology. Her research focuses on the ecology of dung beetles, mostly in areas of the Atlantic rainforest, in Caatinga ecosystems (arid lands), and in the Amazonian forest in Brazil. She uses dung beetles as bioindicators of the effects of major habitat modification, such as the introduction of monoculture, and also in the restoration of deforested or destroyed habitats.
