Dr. Holm has published over 70
scientific papers on ecology, biogeography, evolution, and taxonomy
as well as several major revisions and monographs. He is co-editor
(with Clarke Scholtz) of "The Insects of South Africa"
and co-author (with Eugene Marias) of "Fruit Chafers of
South Africa." His research for the M.S. degree concerned
arthropod ecology in the sand dunes of the Namib desert, and
his PhD. dealt with the systematics of buprestids. He became
a professor at the University of Pretoria in 1981. Although
now retired from the university, he remains a specialist on
the Cetoniinae and Buprestidae of Africa. He has authored
seven popular scientific books, discussed biology on 12 years
of radio talk shows, and been in two documentary film series,
"Bitten by the Bug" and "Come into my Parlour."
