I am a Ph.D. student at the Instituto de Ecología A. C. (INECOL)in Xalapa, Mexico. My bachelor’s degree in biology was at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia in 2015, and the master’s degree in science at the Instituto de Ecología A. C. (INECOL) in 2018. My research interests are the taxonomy, systematics, and acoustic communication in bess beetles (Coleoptera: Passalidae) using morphological, molecular, and morphometric data. During my undergraduate thesis, I worked with geometric morphometry to evaluate changes in the wing morphology of bess beetles (Coleoptera: Passalidae: Proculini) and its relation to elevation. For my master’s degree, I worked with the Mesoamerican genus Vindex Kaup, doing a taxonomic revision and morphological phylogeny. Currently, I am working on the evolution of acoustic communication in Vindex by studying the stridulatory apparatus (plectrum) and the distress signals, and its relation with the evolutionary history and the ecological niche.
