Thomson was a Swedish naturalist, professor in Lund, and a prominent coleopterist who described a few scarab taxa. Perhaps more importantly,he was a Hymenoptera systematist. He collected all over Sweden during 1840-60s. His main collection is in Lund, but it is partially scattered elsewhere. He is not to be confused with the cetoniine taxonomist, J. Thomson, who was active at the same time.
