Fallén was a Swedish naturalist, professor in Lund, and mostly a dipterologist, but he described some scarab taxa in his Observationes Entomologicae (1807). Born in the province of Värmland, he studied in Uppsala and came to Stockholm and met with the local Sturm und Drang poets. In one famous incident, he was fired from a position because his employer found it cruel to pin living butterflies and placing them on the top hat he was wearing. He later moved to his mansion Esperöd in eastern Skane, where he collected insects and played the violin. His collection remains in Lund.
