Charles DeGeer

DeGeer was a Swedish naturalist and industrialist, owner of the Löfsta iron works, and probably the richest man in the country at the time. He studied insects in general and published his first entomological paper (on springtails) as a young man of 20. Able to afford a better microscope than others at the time, his magnum opus Mémoires pour Servir à l´Histoire des Insectes (many volumes, the scarabs are in t 4 (1774) is famous for the detailed illustrations, but he did not quite agree with his friend Linnaeus about nomenclature. His collection is in the Stockholm museum.
