Alonzo Davis, at the end of his brief career, was an Assistant Entomologist with the Division of Truck Crop and Garden Insect Investigations with the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Beltsville, MD.  In his position with the USDA, he was a specialist of mushroom pests.  He became intensely interested in beetles as a boy, and this interest thrived under the tutelage of Dr. H. C. Fall, one of his teachers at Pasadena High School in California.  While he had broad interests in Coleoptera, he was particularly interested in the genus Pleocoma (Scarabaeoidea: Pleocomidae), and he revised the genus in 1935 (Bulletin of the Southern California Academy of Sciences 33: 3, 123-130 and 34: 1, 4-36).
