Distribution: Scattered distribution in the southeast, northeast, and Indiana: Alabama, Georgia, Long Island, Maryland, Mississippi, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia.

Remarks: The male and female genitalia of P. subtonsa support its status as a member of the P. fraterna group. However, this is a large (18.5-20mm), shiny, pubescent species and thus can usually be distinguished from the other members of this group.

Biological data: Phyllophaga subtonsa is not commonly collected.

Temporal distribution: Adult emergence is later than most Phyllophaga species beginning in June and extending into July.
