Diagnosis:
Males with
elytra and pronotum velutinous; females with elytra apically velutinous.
Males with anterior tibiae straight. Pronotum with median horn. Horn
broadly bifurcate horn. Anterior angles of pronotum produced into short,
acute horns. Females with pronotum rugopunctate. Pronotum without longitudinal,
posteromedian carina. Scutellum at base finely punctate.

Biological
Data: Megasoma
anubis is a pest species in southern Brazil, feeding on the inflorescence
of the Chinese fan palm, Livistona chinensis (Jacq.) R. Br.
ex Mart. (Arecaceae) (Reitter 1960).

Temporal Distribution:
The few specimens
examined exhibited a date range from January-April.
