Type species. Psammodius quinqueplicatus Horn 1871: 292, by original designation.

Diagnosis. Body length 2.7-3.8 mm, elongate, reddish-brown to almost black, dorsal surfaces glabrous. Head surface granulate, frontal suture indistinct, eyes present. Clypeus rounded or almost angulate each side of median emargination. Pronotum with vestiges of 4 transverse grooves (5 moderate ridges) and a median longitudinal groove at base. Elytra elongate, base margined; intervals convex. Metafemur robust. Metatibia not or weakly curved, widened at apex. Metatarsi slightly shortened, basal metatarsomere widened.
Distribution. Southwestern North America to Central America.
