Type species. Aphodius peruanus Erichson 1834: 237, by monotypy.

|
Diagnosis. Body length 7-12 mm, elongate, parallel-sided, flattened, black with some elytral variation; dorsal surface dulled, with scattered long setae. Head smooth, flat. Clypeal margin nearly semicircular. Pronotum with rounded base. Elytra with apical umbone; alternating intervals not raised. Protibia of male and female tridentate. Metatibial apical spinules long, alternately unequal. |
