Type species. Aphodius fuliginosus Harold 1863: 330, by original designation.
  = Aphodius (Platyderus) Schmidt 1913: 123 (in part) [not Platyderus Stephens 1828; Carabidae].
= Aphodius (Platyderides) Schmidt 1916: 99 [new name for Platyderus Schmidt] (in part). Type species: Aphodius arrowi Schmidt 1910: 353, by monotypy.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Diagnosis. Body length 5-10 mm, elongate, distinctly flattened, dark brown, lacking color pattern. Head broad, flat, smooth, lacking tubercles. Head and pronotum lacking lateral fringe of setae. Lateral marginal bead of pronotum fine. Metatibial apical spinules long and unequal.
 
 
 
 
Distribution. Southwestern North America to Central America.
