Revision: Ocampo, F. C. 2006. Phylogenetic Analysis of the Scarab Family Hybosoridae and Monographic Revision of the New World Subfamily Anaidinae (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae). Bulletin of the University of Nebraska State Museum, Vol. 19. 210pp.

Natural history: Specimens of Cryptogenius species were collected under bark and in leaf litter. Krikken (1975) found a large amount of fungal material, including hyphomycetes, in the alimentary tract of adult Cryptogenius specimens. This confirmis the function of mycangium on the ventral side of the mandibular mola.
