Peter G. Allsopp

PETER GEOFFREY ALLSOPP

Peter has had a rather schizoid relationship with scarabs. On the one hand, for 30 years he was paid by the Australian sugar industry to help kill scarabs attacking sugarcane. On the other hand, he has had a strong interest in the systematics of Australian scarabs, especially the Melolonthinae, Rutelinae and Dynastinae. Since early 2017, this relationship has matured with his retirement from full-time employment and taking up an honorary research fellowship at the Queensland Museum.

Current systematics research focuses on revising genera of Australian Melolonthini and Rutelinae. A long-term project is to document the scarab fauna of Queensland, the most scarab-diverse state of Australia.
