Mariana Alejandra Cherman conducted work on the genus Liogenys (Melolonthinae: Diplotaxini) for her PhD at the Universidade Federal do Paraná (UFPR) in Curitiba, Brazil. Her main interest is the taxonomy, ecology, and geographic distribution of Neotropical Dynastinae, Rutelinae, Melolonthinae, and Cetoniinae, including both larvae and adults. Mariana worked on a populational analysis of Melolonthidae (Coleoptera) in the “Planalto” region of Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil for her M.S. thesis at the Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (UFSM) in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, with Dr. Jerson V. C. Guedes. She provided identification key for the immatures of Dynastinae, Rutelinae and Melolonthinae. She is also advised by Dr. Miguel Angel Morón in México.
