Fernando Vaz-de-Mello is a grad student in systematics at the Instituto de Ecologia in Xalapa, Mexico working with Dr. Gonzalo Halffter. His interest is the taxonomy and systematics of Neotropical Laparosticti Scarabaeoidea, and he worked on the systematics of the scarabaeinae genera Trichillum and Pedaridium for his M. S. thesis at the University of Lavras in Brazil. He is also preparing descriptions of new species and some new keys. He is describing new species in the Aclopidae, Bolboceratidae, Ochodaeidae and Orphnidae. He is also interested in the distribution of Brasilian Laparosticts, myrmecophily, and termitophily in this group, and phylogenetic relationships of small genera of Canthonini and Ateuchini. He is very interested in exchanging scarabs of the world.
