Dr. Bernard Doube has been heavily involved in research and education about dung beetles for more than 40 years. Bernard worked with CSIRO for 29 years, including 7 years as Officer in Charge of the CSIRO Dung Beetle Research Unit in Pretoria, South Africa. Since 2003, he has been the lead researcher and principal of Dung Beetle Solutions International (DBSI). Bernard is an adjunct researcher at Charles Sturt University and a theme leader in the Australian Dung Beetle Ecosystem Engineers project, in which he is responsible for the distribution of newly imported species of dung beetles across southern Australia.

He has published many research papers on dung beetles, earthworms, and the biological basis of soil health. He has conducted grant-funded research on dung beetles since 2003 in association with many research partners including water authorities, federal agencies (e.g., Meat and Livestock Australia), universities, and Landcare and other landholder groups.
