Adrian Davis started out in the
U.K. but got bitten by the travel bug, so in 1971 he traveled
overland from Europe through Africa where he has been ever since.
He is currently based at the University of Pretoria, South Africa,
as a member of the Scarab Research Group in the Department of
Zoology & Entomology after stints at the University of Cape
Town and the overseas station of the Australian CSIRO Dung Beetle
Research Unit in Pretoria. Although he has dabbled in nesting
biology and ecophysiology of scarabaeine dung beetles, he has
been primarily interested in their spatial and temporal distribution
patterns from biogeographical down to community ecological scales
of organization. This groundwork has now evolved into an interest
in the historical origins of these patterns, which is assisted
by his taxonomic knowledge of the Afrotropical fauna.
