Diagnosis. Body length 1.5-7.0 mm, elongate, parallel-sided, somewhat flattened, reddish-brown to black, glossy. Head broad, convex. Clypeus lacking teeth, surface finely punctate, rarely granulate. Pronotum rectangular or subquadrate, not much broader than head; some narrowly explanate at lateral margin. Elytral striae coarsely punctate. Meso- and metatibial apex with 1-3 accessory spines; some with median transverse carina on tibia. Abdominal sternites coalescent, sutures complete and usually fluted.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Distribution. Pantropical.
 
Composition. Worldwide, Saprosites contains approximately 130 species, 17 of which occur in the New World.
