Type species. Myrmecaphodius proseni Martinez 1952: 87, by monotypy.

 
 
Diagnosis. Body length 5.5-6.0 mm, elongate, parallel-sided, dark red to black. Head broad with longitudinal rugulae. Pronotum robust, explanate laterally; lateral margin weakly sinuate with dense fringe of short scale-like setae. Pronotal base with wide marginal groove. Elytral base with fifth interval prominent, fifth stria deeply grooved; humeral lobe absent. Meso- and metatibia slender.

Composition. Myrmecaphodius contains a single species.

Life History. Stebnicka (1999) reports M. proseni collected from the nest of Solenopsis saevissima (Smith) (Stebnicka 2007).
