Type species. Iarupea lopeteguii Martinez 1953: 77, by monotypy.

 
Diagnosis. Body length 5.5-6.0 mm, elongate, parallel-sided, dark red to black, dulled. Head broad with longitudinal rugulae. Pronotum robust, distinctly explanate laterally, lateral margin sinuate with dense fringe of short scale-like setae. Pronotal base with wide marginal groove. Elytral base with fifth interval prominent, fifth stria deeply grooved; humeral lobe present. Meso- and metatibia slender.

Composition. Iarupea contains 5 species.

Life History. Iarupea spp. live with fire ants, Solenopsis spp. (label data) and leaf-cutter ants, Atta spp. (Stebnicka 2007).
